Nothing better the a mom and pop spot

Mary and I had to get up kinda early today to fax some things back and forth from new york to try and get ouf new apartment. After doing all that grown up stuff we were pretty hungry and the greasy fast food our budget allows for has been loosing its luster. Luckily I thought I noticed a bagel place at the entrance of the strip mall. So we drove around the mall till we found Sunrise bagel cafe. Once you walk in it has a pretty inviting vibe to it with easy listening music playing some couches, and it even has art from local artists on the wall. It was a good change of pace since most of arizona (or at least the bigger areas we've been speading most our time in) lack mom and pop establishments. I miss places like this. Growing up I used to love going to places like cobblers after my dads softballs games for wings. As cliche as it sounds its good to go somewhere where they know your name, even the grahmsville deli before school every morning was fun. This place had that vibe, the husband makes the orders while the wife takes the orders. She even bought it to us when they were done. I got the "arizona bagel" which was egg, sausage pepperjack cheese, jalepano and a side of homemade salsa on an everything bagel, which was really good. Mary had an everything bagel with cream cheese. It all came out to about six dollars after drinks. I think I might an excuse to come out this way once we move to north phoniex.

Homesick remedy

I kinda miss my dad so I picked these up at wal mart. Hes like the king of push pops. When I was little my dad used to empty vending machines and I got to drive around with him while he did it and eat reeses pieces, at eight years old that was probally the coolest way to spend my day. Heres to you pop

Bike of the day

I was thinking since ill be surrounded by bikes all the time I could do a bike of the day. This is a 95 softail nostalga also known as the moo cow model due to a cow like color
scheme that was very popular I came across this while riding around north phoniex after we were looking at our new apartment. It origanally comes with an 88cubic inch engine but the owner (a nice lady from wisconsin named paty kakes, yes that was her real name) had the 96 inch screamimg eagle big bore kit put on. The fishtail pipes soumded great too.

Adventures in duncan

I'm a little late posting this due to the fact we have been doing either a lot of resting or spending time with bobby and the family before they left for florida. So we stopped at this great little desert town called Duncan which was the first town after the arizona border when you're traveling on us-70. We originally had stopped for gas but we ran into a problem when we found out the only two gas stations in town only sold 87 grade gas and my spoiled dyna needs 91 or better. So we began to head out and crossed our fingers for another gas station close but on our way out of town we passed an eye grabbing store called Germaine feeds emporium. I've always felt that the term emporium was somewhat of a bold statement hard to live up to but Germaine's had no problem living up to that hype. When we first decided to go take a look inside we had no idea what to expect but once we got there we needed to set a strict time limit because we knew we would have no problem spending a whole day there. Germaines was filled with basically anything old and collectible and interesting. They have tons of cool old glassware, a gun store advertisements, tin signs, toys, a porcelain doll section (which I lack pictures of because let's be honest they are creepy) and so much more we probably don't even know about yet. Some of my fondest and most vivid childhood memories involve being around the family owned auction weather it was in the company of grandfather or my parents. I'm sure you can imagine my excitement when I was lucky enough to find a girlfriend who has the same appreciation for old things. So between her love of old things and mine needless to say we exceeded both our time limit and our budget but I would say it was well worth it. Personally my favorite part was the owners Quinton and Carol. You could tell they really loved what they did, it felt like they wanted to hear our story just as much as they wanted to tell a few of their own. We weren't there more then ten minutes and quinton approached us and started a pretty pleasant conversation and he seemed interested in my responses and what I had to say. As we spent more time there I let mary go search crazy while I mostly had some genuine conversation with quinton. As it turns out we had common ground not only did he ride and love it, but he also told some great stories (and even showed me some pictures) of his father who was a fighter pilot and a flat track racer back in the day. His wife carol was just as pleasant and they both had a great sense of humor. Before we left they gave us some cold sodas for the road. All in all I can't wait to go back for a visit because the thing that made it even better was the great after. Ill have to take the rest of the bastards there to visit. Either way I can't wait to go back and visit

Microwave baths and texas mountain gems

After a nice dinner in austin we continued to head west. We were about an hour and a half out of austin when the temperature dropped dramatically causing us to seek refuge in a nice town called fredericksburg which was just over 3 hours from where we wanted to be. While mary was booking the room for the night she saw a business card for a local motorcycle shop and thought I could sell my extra handlebars to them. Upon further inspection we realized their business hours were 10am to 4pm which was unfortunate because we planned on being on the road by then and we needed all the day light we could get to avoid night time in the desert. After a little tv we settled in and went to bed. We woke up the next morning only to find the hotel had no hot water. Apparently I'm not the only man afraid of my old lady because all she had to do was say "so what kind of refund are you offering" and we got a fifty percent discount. After our complimentary breakfast and a crude bath with microwaved water we packed up and hit the road. Just a few miles out of town mary pulled over to remind me to take an adderall so I can focus on the road and not on how shinny some texans tow hitch, when I realized a spot of oil on my engine. Luckily for us we still had the card from the local shop, so I gave them a call and told them not only about my suspected leak but also about our trip. I was assured by a very nice man they could help and was given some easy to follow directions. After a quick ride we were there and I was told to pull my bike around back into the shop which much like heaven was riddled with everything from dirt bikes to old vespas and everything in between including a 1951 indian. After a nice man named paul took a quick look at my bike it was deemed a false alarm. I told him that I loved his shop and asked if I could take some pictures, he not only agreed but offered to take many and I on a tour. The front of the shop was somehow even better then the back. There were a bunch of classic bsa and triumphs along with new harleys, they also had every other make of bike you could think of. One of my favorites was the moped with a sportster 1200 engine in it, they even told me they plan on making more just like it! Due to the fact they wouldn't except a payment for taking a look at my bike mary and I thought we had to buy something. After settling on a shirt I asked how much the owners daughter how much it was and she responded with "oh honey you can just have that we don't even carry that shirt anymore."! After a whole bunch of thank yous we tried to buy a calendar in an attempt to give them some kind of money and much to our surprise she said once again "you guys can just have that to we need to get new ones printed anyway". On our way out they wished me luck in school I thanked them and paul and I agreed I should call them when I graduate, looks like texas might be a next on the list. Did I mention we didn't even start driving for the day yet? From the shop the gps took us on an alternate route and man I'm a glad it did. We got to take the scenic route threw some beautiful mountains with a bunch of great turns that made me miss new york even more. After a nice two hour ride threw the mountains we finally hit i-10 again and it was smooth sailing, at for a short while. After about 40 miles we hit 30 mile and hour winds which had me all over the roads. The wind was so intense I took a photo of my speedo and you can actually see the wind it almost looks like I took it under water. After a five hour drive from hell we ended up in fort stockton texas. We unfortunately ended up with a crappy motel 6 with tiny towel and 10 channels non of which were spiketv which was show free live ufc fights for the troops. Tomorrow its off to demming new mexico. By the way if your ever in fredericksburg look up moto-texas powersports you won't be disappointed. Stay tuned.

Barbsys post made me remember...

That I totally forgot to post this. Barbs and ben weren't the only ones getting nostalgic last night. Nothing like some awesome cartoons to make you remember simpler times huh?
